Maria The Witch Review

Maria the Witch is a game by Naps Team. It grabs your attention by its cute graphics which look amazing and right at home on the Nintendo Switch! Let’s get to the review!

Maria The Witch

The game’s premise is that you control Maria’s Broom and try and get to the end of the stages. The story behind the game is that an Evil Monster has stolen all the mail and it’s your Job to try and get all the mail back! You do this by collecting coins and mail and reaching checkpoints where you can deliver the mail and buy unlockables. In each stage, there are different tasks that you can have to do achieve to be able to get all three stars per level.

Controls are a Mess! Luckily Maria Has a Broom

This is where the game starts to have its flaws, not within its premise but within its controls. I cannot adequately explain the controls because they are so unnatural. So, you move the broom forward by tapping the A button or Y button if you are going left on its 2D plane. Or you press the buttons for longer you start to turn upwards and this is where the problem lies. The controls are terribly frustrating to use, and you need the patience to learn the controls adequately. Later on in the game, this becomes a huge problem later on in the game where there need to be precise movements.

Should it have stayed on Mobile?

This game is one of the many games that are starting to appear on the mobile. Some say that these types of games are a senseless cash grab. However, I feel like this game fits the Nintendo Switch really well with its cute design and if you are prepared to master the controls then the game is great. The game is only £4.49 ($4.99) and right now it’s on sale for half price! So, if you were ever to get the game it would be now. This game just scrapes into the Pass Category.

Bleed 2 Review – Nintendo Switch

In Bleed 2, the sequel to the previously Xbox Live indie darling Bleed, our resident pink-haired badass is called in to save the world, as only she can! Wryn is a katana wielding gun fetishist that loves to shoot anything and everything and does so in the most stylish way possible.

How to Bleed!!!!!!

Bleed 2 is an action platformer with a big emphasis on the action. Bootdisk Revolution has found a way to bring twin-stick shooter style controls to the two-dimensional world that is always best for getting from point A to point B using various levels of terrain and carefully placed girders. You move Wryn around with the left analog stick, and then you auto fire an infinite amount of bullets using the right analog stick. Also, you can also flick the right analog stick backwards from your current orientation to bust out Wryn’s katana, which works as both a melee attack to knock back enemies, and as a means of reflecting specific projectiles back at an opponent. You can aim your double jumps, and jumping is done with ZR. It takes a little getting used to, as could be expected from any non traditional controls (not tying jump to the face buttons, for one), but it becomes natural within the game.

Mastering the controls is essential to making it through the boss fights. Most of Bleed has more in common with Contra than Megaman, but the boss fights are well designed and rely heavily on your pattern recognition skills. These are easily the best part of the game, although it is really all a fun experience.

…but wait! There’s More!

My favorite part of Bleed 2, is actually a mode that cuts out the wildly varying boss modes and instead opts for randomly generated levels. While the core game has amazing level design and a well implemented difficulty progression, the randomly generated levels are just pure fun. They strip the level components down a wire framework that actually seems to make the enemies easier to target and the projectiles easier to avoid. This mode is the perfect way to kill a few minutes of downtime.

The Clotting

Bleed 2 is an intense, mindless bit of fun. Until you get to the bosses, then you need to pay attention, and it’s the perfect balance of those two extremes- mindless fun and careful strategy, that makes this such a deeply satisfying game.

Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder

Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder. Devastated

paper wars quest 4 pixels
Have you ever found yourself just endlessly scrolling through the Nintendo Switch EShop,
not sure of what you’re looking for, or even what you want to play. You come acrossana icon
that looks like a picture a young child drew of a soldier. You keep going because you tell
yourself that looks childish. That’s where you are wrong. Paper wars for the Nintendo
Switch is a hidden gem, worth your time and affection.

Here they come

Paper war treats your eyes to a unique art style that looks like it was made out of notepad
sketches. After that you have the options of playing through three chapters made up of
twenty-eight mission each, you also have the option of playing a survival mode. After
jumping into a mission, you are tasked with holding the hordes of enemies off, by shooting at
them with your tank and using power-ups that appear on the battlefield.
Each mission begins with a short description of what needs to be accomplished. This is
really nice because it switches the gameplay up just enough to keep the game interesting.
Some missions might have you focus on only one type of enemy. You may also have to hold
your enemy off for a set period of time. For those of you who love achievements, there is a
medal system based on how efficient you are at completing missions. So this gives you
something to go back for, and also add replay value to this game.

Fire at will

One of the greatest this about this game is that it utilizes the Switches touch screen. I found
the game a lot more enjoyable when using the touch controls. I also wanted to do a little
experiment with this game. My nine-year-old son really has no interest in video games. He
will play for a race or two of Mario Kart, but no more just enough to amuse his old man. He
does, however, love his Ipad, I said to him, hey give this new game a try, you can use it like
your Ipad, I then had a hard time getting my switch back because he was having a blast. I
really wish more developers would take advantage of this style of gameplay, so that more
people could enjoy the switch.

Man down

The one problem I had with paper wars was the type of text the developer used. I don’t know
if it is me getting old, but sometimes it took me a minute to figure out the text. They use
uppercase lowercase and backward letters at random.

The final stand

At the end of the day, paper war is a hidden gem on the Nintendo EShop. With the amount of
content you get and the amount of replayability you will get out of it, this is a must-have
game, it’s great because you can easily knock out a mission or two while waiting in line at
the store, or riding the bus. There needs to be more games like paper wars that are
designed to be consumed in three to five-minute chunks.
