Maria The Witch Review

Maria the Witch is a game by Naps Team. It grabs your attention by its cute graphics which look amazing and right at home on the Nintendo Switch! Let’s get to the review!

Maria The Witch

The game’s premise is that you control Maria’s Broom and try and get to the end of the stages. The story behind the game is that an Evil Monster has stolen all the mail and it’s your Job to try and get all the mail back! You do this by collecting coins and mail and reaching checkpoints where you can deliver the mail and buy unlockables. In each stage, there are different tasks that you can have to do achieve to be able to get all three stars per level.

Controls are a Mess! Luckily Maria Has a Broom

This is where the game starts to have its flaws, not within its premise but within its controls. I cannot adequately explain the controls because they are so unnatural. So, you move the broom forward by tapping the A button or Y button if you are going left on its 2D plane. Or you press the buttons for longer you start to turn upwards and this is where the problem lies. The controls are terribly frustrating to use, and you need the patience to learn the controls adequately. Later on in the game, this becomes a huge problem later on in the game where there need to be precise movements.

Should it have stayed on Mobile?

This game is one of the many games that are starting to appear on the mobile. Some say that these types of games are a senseless cash grab. However, I feel like this game fits the Nintendo Switch really well with its cute design and if you are prepared to master the controls then the game is great. The game is only £4.49 ($4.99) and right now it’s on sale for half price! So, if you were ever to get the game it would be now. This game just scrapes into the Pass Category.

SteamWorld Dig Review

A Spectacular Journey to Uncover

SteamWorld Dig for Nintendo Switch is a game created by Image and Form. For me it stands as one of the best E-titles on the Nintendo Switch and a must have for any owner. From the moment the game starts it hooks you into its Metroidvania style play. Without spoiling the story, you play as a character called Rusty who got a message from his Uncle Joe to come and take over his mine. Once you get there you find he has died and the mine is now yours to do as you please.

Exploration is key

The game is centred on Rusty digging down and finding caves and secrets to what his uncle was doing. Which for this review will not delve into because that is the joy of the game is to explore and find out what is going on and where is all leads to. Exploration is definitely the key with it being necessary to figure out where to go but also to find the secrets that are scattered all around.

Upgrades? Upgrades? Wait more upgrades?

There are so many upgrades within the game! You start of with one shop offering you upgrades to your pick and some ladders. But as you go through the game more and more shops open and more upgrades become available. Also look underground carefully because you definitely don’t want to miss all the upgrades that the SteamWorld Dig has to offer. Oh and did I tell you there was upgrades in game?

The Decision

A warning to all those that play SteamWorld Dig, its addicting, I played through the whole game in one sitting because I was so enticed by the game and the story. It took me 4 hours to complete and every minute was worth my time. It engages you in a way that sucks you into the game. For £8.99($10) its worth every penny and deserving of your time. It’s a game that you should not miss out on and perfect for the Nintendo Switch.

Where is Rusty?

SteamWorld Dig 2 for 3DS tasks you with finding Rusty, the protagonist from the first game. Rusty has disappeared and Dorothy, the main character, must find him. SteamWorld Dig 2 is a “Metroidvania” style game that has you digging through the dirt, forging your own path. So with that, let’s get our hands dirty!

Grab Your Pickaxe

The main idea of SteamWorld Dig 2 is to dig your way down into the Earth to make your own path through the world. As you start to mine your way down you will uncover minerals that you can take back to the surface to sell to earn money. When you make more money, you can upgrade your gear, as well as acquire new abilities. As you improve your equipment, you will be able to dig further down and uncover new areas. The game involves platforming, and it does a beautiful job with it. The controls are fantastic, and the platforming is addictive. Steamworld Dig 2 for 3DS makes you think about how you dig your tunnels so that you will be able to maneuver back to the surface.

Down In The Tunnels

As you make your way through your mine, you will find caves to enter that will challenge you, and reward you with more minerals or upgrades to your steam tank, health, and light. Specific tools will make use of your steam tank, which you can refill at any pool of water. The light bar will continue to run down as long as you are underground. The only way to refill the light bar is to either return to the surface or find an upgrade. Upgrading Your characters stats will allow you to spend way more time exploring down in the mines. While you’re exploring, you will come across many characters that are full of life and have a lot to say. Some will even give you tips and tricks for digging your mine.streamworld dig 2 for 3ds

Dig Dig Dig!

SteamWorld Dig 2 offers up a ton of replayability by giving you the freedom to dig the tunnels your way. You may want to jump back in to see if you can beat your time. The game is perfect for speed runners and casual players alike. You can play however you like and have a good time. Aside from the gameplay, SteamWorld Dig 2 also features some cameos from other indie game developers. One that sticks in my mind is a mineral named Zoinkonium, a wink at Zoink Games.

The Results Are In!

I have no problem recommending this game to everyone. The game is full of personality, fun gameplay, and a vast world to explore. The first time I sat down to play SteamWorld Dig 2 I ended up marathoning the game to completion. Image & Form Struck diamonds with SteamWorld Dig 2, and I cannot wait to play through it again on my 3DS!
