2DS Holiday Buyer Guide

Christmas is coming

With Christmas just over one month away, a lot of people have started working on completing their shopping list. Christmas is a time of year where a lot of people receive their first console. With so many options to choose from, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. I am going to offer my opinion, on what I feel is your best bang for your buck. I give you the Nintendo 2DS family of handheld consoles. The Nintendo 2DS family is the least expensive gaming option, with a large library of diverse games.

Nintendo 2DS Wedge

Nintendo offers two different versions of the 2DS, the wedge model for $79.99. This option comes packed with either Mario Kart 7 or New Super Mario Bros 2. In my opinion, this model of the 2DS would be perfect for a younger audience, from about five to ten years old. The wedged style handheld can really take a beating, without worrying about the damaging the system.

Nintendo 2DS XL

The second option for the Nintendo 2DS is the 2DS XL. This version is a clamshell design and is a lot more aesthetically pleasing. The Nintendo 2DS XL comes in at a price point of $149.99 and comes in one of two bundles with either Mario Kart 7 or New Super Mario Bros 2. I would suggest that this model would be better for a preteen aged gamer.

A game that almost everyone can enjoy is the great story of a Link Between Worlds. This game is the sequel to the Super Nintendo classic A Link to the Past. This Zelda game would be a great entry point to a newcomer of the series.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf $19.99

Animal Crossing is a village builder type of game where you are the mayor of the new city. You interact with the different animals who live in your town, and complete a variety of tasks to help them enjoy living in your town. This game is very simple to pick up and play, but very hard to put down.

Lastly, everyone’s guilty pleasure Minecraft. There is nothing I can say that hasn’t been said already about Minecraft, but it looks right at home on the 2DS XL. Minecraft is only available on the 2DS XL.

Lets see what Tony has to say about the latest Nintendo meme

Sushi Strikers the way of sushido

You need this demo

Sushi Strikers the way of sushido now has a demo that was launched on Thursday. I can say that my mind way changed about Sushi Strikers based on this demo. If you are a fan of anime or puzzle games this is for you. Nintendo has really gone all out for this game. There is a amazing opening animated video with original music and subtitles for you to sing along karaoke style.

don’t judge a game by its cover

When this game was in the tree house last year at E3. It was really disappointed That they would spend so much time showing it off. Another sticking point that had me turned off of Sushi Strikers was its price point $64 on the Canadian EShop.

After seeing how beautiful the animation is and how much effort was put in to this I can say now it is totally worth the full price. Sushi Strikers is also the first game to launch on both Nintendo Switch and 3DS, that has not been a port and will be exactly the same.

The draw backs

With this being the first time Nintendo has done this with a game for the 3DS and Switch there are some draw backs. I found battling with the button controls very cumbersome, but I like that Nintendo would still present that option.

In Sushi Strikers Nintendo also gives you the option to use the Switch’s touch screen. This way feels better  to play but, I would say it is a little difficult with my fingers. In my opinion they best way to play this game would be with the 3DS.  I think you would have better control in battle with the touch screen and styles combo.

Sushi Strikers on Nintendo Switch is a beautiful game and with some practice you can get used to the controls on the Switch. The 3DS I believe will have less of a learning curve in my opinion.  Either way I would recommend that you down load this demo and give it a try you won’t regret it.

Nintendo E3 2018

Today some interesting pictures were released on to the wild. These pictures are reportedly a memo from Nintendo. The memos detail Nintendo’s stage presentation and also there TreeHouse event.

nintendoe3

Some titles that get me excited are. Punch Out become the Champion. Metriod Prime: Renegade. Fallout 3 Anniversary. Pokemon let’s go Pikachu and Pokemon let’s go Eevee. F-Zero SX. Star Fox Lylat System. The most exciting thing about this list if it is real is that, Nintendo only really talks about games that are releasing in the next year. with this line up Nintendo could for sure push 20 million by the end of there financial year.

Tree house stream

The fun and excitement for Nintendo won’t stop at the main stage, we will be treated to hours of game play from the TreeHouse gang. So many  juicy games in store for us during this stream.

nintendotreehouse

All of the game in the TreeHouse were games revealed from the above memo, with some 3DS goodness sprinkled in. The legend of Zelda: Links awakening, and Luigi’s Mansion. This will definitely be on Nintendo TreeHouse you do not want to miss. Lets be honest though if it sounds to good to be true it usually is so lets just have fun talking about rumors and speculation, and take all news with a grain of salt.

3DS will live on

Nintendo 3DS Will Continue On

In a Q&A session for shareholders after Nintendo’s business meet. Current president Tatsumi Kimishima and the new president Shuntaro Furukawa were asked about the future of the 3DS. Mr. Kimishima has this to say about the 3DS.

“[The 3DS] has an ample software lineup at a price point that makes the system affordable especially for parents looking to buy for their kids. We expect that demand to continue during this fiscal year as well, so we will continue to sell the product”

Mr. Kimishima went on to talk about how the Nintendo Switch sales could impact the future of the Nintendo 3DS.

“Given that Nintendo Switch is a home gaming system that can be taken on the go, this situation may change if it grows from being a one-per-household system to a one-per-person system. But the price of Nintendo Switch is not something with which most parents would buy a system for every one of their children in a short period of time. Moving forward, we will work to ascertain what kinds of play people want at which price points, and as long as there is such demand, we will continue to sell the Nintendo 3DS system. I see the product coexisting with Nintendo Switch at this point in time.”

It seems that this great hand held in the 3DS is here to stay for the near future.

Where is Rusty?

SteamWorld Dig 2 for 3DS tasks you with finding Rusty, the protagonist from the first game. Rusty has disappeared and Dorothy, the main character, must find him. SteamWorld Dig 2 is a “Metroidvania” style game that has you digging through the dirt, forging your own path. So with that, let’s get our hands dirty!

Grab Your Pickaxe

The main idea of SteamWorld Dig 2 is to dig your way down into the Earth to make your own path through the world. As you start to mine your way down you will uncover minerals that you can take back to the surface to sell to earn money. When you make more money, you can upgrade your gear, as well as acquire new abilities. As you improve your equipment, you will be able to dig further down and uncover new areas. The game involves platforming, and it does a beautiful job with it. The controls are fantastic, and the platforming is addictive. Steamworld Dig 2 for 3DS makes you think about how you dig your tunnels so that you will be able to maneuver back to the surface.

Down In The Tunnels

As you make your way through your mine, you will find caves to enter that will challenge you, and reward you with more minerals or upgrades to your steam tank, health, and light. Specific tools will make use of your steam tank, which you can refill at any pool of water. The light bar will continue to run down as long as you are underground. The only way to refill the light bar is to either return to the surface or find an upgrade. Upgrading Your characters stats will allow you to spend way more time exploring down in the mines. While you’re exploring, you will come across many characters that are full of life and have a lot to say. Some will even give you tips and tricks for digging your mine.streamworld dig 2 for 3ds

Dig Dig Dig!

SteamWorld Dig 2 offers up a ton of replayability by giving you the freedom to dig the tunnels your way. You may want to jump back in to see if you can beat your time. The game is perfect for speed runners and casual players alike. You can play however you like and have a good time. Aside from the gameplay, SteamWorld Dig 2 also features some cameos from other indie game developers. One that sticks in my mind is a mineral named Zoinkonium, a wink at Zoink Games.

The Results Are In!

swd2 for 3ds

I have no problem recommending this game to everyone. The game is full of personality, fun gameplay, and a vast world to explore. The first time I sat down to play SteamWorld Dig 2 I ended up marathoning the game to completion.
